Squirrels are destructive, and they do some of the worst damage in buildings and homes. The problem with Columbus squirrels is they love to constantly chew. There are signs you can look out for that will indicate you have Ohio squirrels living close by and most likely are in your attic.
• Scratching and rustling sounds coming from the walls or the roof area. This is often heard around the morning time and eveningwhen they are mostly in their nest.
• A strong odor. Squirrel waste will start to smell if it is left too long. It will smell stale and musty
• Visually seeing squirrel waste which is a good sign there is a Columbus squirrel hanging around. Be sure to double check though as squirrel droppings do tend to look similar to other animal droppings.
• If you see nests. Squirrels do often make a couple of nests that are all quite close together.
• Activity. Plenty of squirrel activity is a good sign they are hanging around your home which can indicate they are nesting in the attic or chimneys.
• Entry. Seeing small holes in the backyard, eaten plants and chewed up bark all indicate squirrel activity.
• Territory. You may hear the squirrels fighting which can indicate one population have claimed your home as theirs and are fighting with other oncoming squirrels.
• Attic Damage. If you check your attic and see damage to your insulation or chewed wiring or beams be sure to check for nests and babies incase they are hidden somewhere.
You can either hire some traps and try to catch them yourself or hire the professionals to come in and get rid of them as well as inspect your property for damage.
You may only need to spot treatment places in the attic but if more than one Ohio squirrel has been up there for a decent amount of time there will be damage in places that will need replacing.
It’s important not to just let them live there as their dropping are dangerous to inhale in and this can happen if they are expelling in the duct work for air cons or heating and you switch it on letting the bacteria transfer via the air flow.
